Title: Creating an AUV – Post-Mortem
Abstract: Over the last few years the Marine Group has created an AUV from initial design concept through to a platform that has descended to 100m beneath the waves and captured over fifty-thousand images of sea-floor 1000km offshore of the NSW coastline. This seminar will give some context of the groups activities, thoughts behind the decision to design and build in-house before going through the roughly two year long process since first in water trials to being taken to Elizabeth and Middleton Reefs near Lord Howe Island with lessons learnt along the way.
Bio: Lachlan completed his PhD at the ACFR in 2016. His work has looked at cooperative localisation and underwater localisation related topics with a hands-on deviation to getting a new AUV from completed hardware to mission ready.
