Title: Dental Robotics: Setup, Visualisation Model and Basic Cleaning Dental Techniques

Abstract:
Access to dental services is a worldwide challenge, particularly in the presence of a pandemic, for nations with a shortage of dentists and individuals with disabilities or compromised immune systems. This issue has led to billions of people being impacted by oral diseases. This presentation presents the development of a simplified toothbrushing setup for robotic dentistry, as a preliminary step into the creation of a dental robot system to perform more complex and precise cleaning procedures. A combined approach of MATLAB and Unity has been used for simulation of the robot to target different locations of the mouth while making use of ray casting in Unity for collision avoidance navigation.

Bio: Evie Deaker completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering (Honours) at the University of Sydney in 2019. She is now a third-year PhD student in the ACFR, working with dentists to complete her PhD on The Safety of Robotic Dentistry. She is interested in the benefits of technology and robotics to improve global healthcare systems.
